My Trying To Conceive (TTC) Journey with PCOS

I have been married last August 2011, but until now I’m still not pregnant. My husband and I decided that we give it at least a year of “natural way” by that it means, not going to see a doctor and not taking any medicines —and just see if I will get pregnant. But 1 year has passed and still not pregnant yet. I am so worried because I’m already 32 and they say that it’s more difficult to get pregnant when your older. So we finally decided that we go see a doctor and find out why we couldn’t get pregnant.

So last March 2013, I finally went to an OB. I was anxious at first because it was my first time seeing a doctor and I told her right away what my problem is and that I want to become pregnant. So she made an ultrasound and found out that I have a Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS. Both of my ovaries are with multiple sub capsular follicles of less than 1 cm. in size with dense stroma suggested of polycystic ovaries.

I always knew that my menstrual cycle is not normal since I was a teenager because sometimes I go for months without my period, the longest is 3 months but I just didn’t thought that this will greatly affect in the future when I want to have a child of my own. I was so naive.

So my doctor prescribed me Metformin, (medicine known to treat type 2 diabetes) because she said that I’m also high insulin resistant due to my being PCOS and Duphaston, a progesterone hormone to help regulate with my menstrual cycle. I started taking it and on April 13 during bed time then I got my period. She also prescribed me Clomid to help me ovulate an egg because I’m not ovulating as well due to my condition which is PCOS. I started taking the Clomid at the 3rd day of my cycle until the 7th day of my cycle during bed time as well. So I went back to my doctor and had an ultrasound again to see if I ovulated. I actually responded to the medicine because I got a dominant follicle on my left ovary the size of  2.1 x 2.2 cm so I was thrilled knowing that. I was predicted to ovulate April 24 so near that date the doctor said that we “contact” every other day.

The doctor also prescribed me PREMARIN, a coagulated estrogen to help in my cervical mucus because one of the symptoms of PCOS is we produce less cervical mucus and that is also a big problem if you want to conceive because the sperm cannot swim through without cervical mucus. So I started taking PREMARIN for six days.

The doctor said that I should be menstruating on May 11 and if I didn’t get my period until May 15, I should do a pregnancy test and see if I am pregnant. I got so excited when I didn’t get my period on May 11, but unfortunately it came on May 14. So I started taking Clomid again starting on the 3rd day of my cycle for 5 days and PREMARIN starting May 22 until May 27. I was predicted to ovulate by May 27.

So tomorrow  and I will go to the doctor again to have an ultrasound.

Still hoping and praying. :)
